The Paramorph Collective is formed of musicians and multidisciplinary artists An Laurence and Kim Farris-Manning. They are the creators of experimental album “All we’re made of is borrowed”, video-opera “til death do us” (2021, Lucky Penny Opera + re:Naissance Opera), and participatory virtual choir multimedia piece “suddenly I was alone / d’un tratto ero sola” (2021, Sing the North).
The “kernel” of Paramorph’s artistry is sound; however, the adventurous collective doesn’t restrain from bringing in other expressive forms to sculpt works according to their vision, whether it be poetry/spoken words, animations and visuals, performance art, etc. Through their work, Kim and An Laurence seek the ambiguous, the delicate, or the unsaid. They foster softness, layer meanings and weave feelings into a cherished experience for collaborators, audiences and themselves alike.
The name “Paramorph” comes from the mineralogical term of the same name, designating the process of transformation of a mineral through the disruption and reorganization of its molecules. The choice refers to the collective’s wish to transform oneself through rearranging inner feelings or thoughts, and to transform a group of collaborators and the audience through meaningful exchanges and by constantly seeking new and different perspectives.
###
Kim and An-Laurence believe that the act of creation is one of caring and sharing. Collaboration is a core value of Paramorph’s creativity and work ethics. The creative process leading to the completion of their works is infused with the minds of all involved, therefore setting an environment where the creative power dynamics are distributed horizontally. Through their art, An-Laurence and Kim aim to create a space/layout in which they and their collaborators can explore together, encouraging interpersonal connections first and foremost. The Paramorph Collective views part of their artistic practice as facilitation; they thrive when they witness the flourishing minds of their collaborators.
