Dobrochna Zubek – Cello
Dr. Dobrochna Zubek’s journey as a cellist is one of curious exploration, artistry, and global connection. Born in Poland and based in Toronto, Canada, Dobrochna has carved a unique path as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator, bringing her soulful sound to audiences across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Equally at home on concert stages and in experimental theatre, Zubek’s career spans continents and genres. She made her New York debut at La MaMa in the Off-Broadway production This is Why We Live, where her playing was praised as virtuosic and emotionally rich. She has shared the stage with icons like Peter Gabriel, Shauna Rolston and José Carreras, and is currently the newest member of the Toronto-based Quartetto Gelato.
From 2009 to 2012, she performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México, and has appeared at major festivals including Ottawa Chamberfest and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. A passionate teacher, she’s led masterclasses around the world, from Poland to Hong Kong.
Zubek holds degrees from Towson University, the Conservatoire de Versailles and the University of Toronto, where she completed her doctorate in cello performance with Shauna Rolston. Whether premiering new music with Thin Edge New Music Collective or performing with symphonies around the world, Zubek continues to push artistic boundaries with heart and imagination.
Caitlin Boyle – Viola
From the concert halls of Europe to the heart of the Canadian chamber music world, Dr. Caitlin Boyle’s journey as a violist is marked by her artistry and passion for collaboration. Her distinguished career began with the Cecilia String Quartet, which she joined in 2006. Over 12 years, the ensemble earned international recognition — including first prize at the Banff International String Quartet Competition — and released four acclaimed albums on the Analekta label. Her playing has been broadcast on airwaves from BBC Radio 3 to the CBC.
Boyle has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the Toronto Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company and the Munich Symphony. As a soloist, she has performed with the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, the Georgian Bay Symphony and the Festival of the Sound Orchestra. A passionate advocate of Canadian music, she has recorded numerous works by contemporary Canadian composers.
Boyle is currently a member of the Shaw Festival Orchestra as well as acting principal violist of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra. She is co-director of 5 at the First, the popular, long-running chamber music series staged at The First Unitarian Church in Hamilton, Ontario. A dedicated educator, Boyle has taught and adjudicated at top institutions across North America and continues to nurture Canada’s next generation of musicians through the Hamilton Suzuki School of Music where she took her first viola lessons as a child.
